Trustee of Lilavati Hospital can now travel abroad after the sessions court granted them permission on Thursday. Principal Judge M.L. Tahaliyani allowed Chetan Mehta to travel abroad for six months but asked him to intimate the Bandra police.
Earlier the sessions court had passed an order directing the police to not arrest Chetan unless a 72-hour notice was served to him. The Bombay High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Chetan on September 6 after he approached the high court apprehending arrest for allegedly assaulting his relative and managing trustee of the hospital, Niket Mehta.
Niket had filed a complaint with Bandra police alleging that he was assaulted by some persons on the directions of Chetan.
Members of Mehta family are locked in a legal battle over control of the Rs 700-crore Lilavati Hospital in Bandra.
Chetan’s relative Prashant Mehta moved the high court seeking cancellation of Chetan’s bail. He said the sessions court cannot pass an order directing police not to arrest Chetan.
The high court, however, modified the sessions court order and granted anticipatory bail to Chetan asking him to seek permission of sessions court in case he wanted to travel abroad.
