Maharashtra Home Department is planning to issue a gag order to police officials prohibiting them from speaking to media.

"We are planning to issue an order prohibiting police official to speak to media," a senior official from Home Department said on Tuesday.
As per All India Service rule book, the police officials should not share confidential things with media except the issues related to policing, the official said.
The order came after the recent row involving senior IPS officers. In an interview to a news magazine, former Mumbai police commissioner Hasan Gafoor allegedly blamed his four subordinates of dereliction of duty during 26/11.
Also the media reports were considered about police Crime Branch Chief Rakesh Maria submitting resignation to the Home Department, as he was alleged by slain IPS official Ashok Kamte's widow.
The Home Department is upset with police officials, who are speaking to the media directly over the internal issues instead of approaching the Government, the official said.
