Maharashtra chief minister’s office on Monday received a letter written by an Akola farmer who killed himself last week after poor rains ruined his crop. As his last wish, Mangesh Umale requested chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to visit his family.
Umale, who is survived by his wife Sanjeevani and a son, wrote in his letter that he was committing suicide owing to the poor monsoon, which destroyed his crop and increased his financial burden.
He wrote that he held Fadnavis in high regard and was an ‘ardent fan’ of the CM. “My only request to you is that you visit my family after my death,” he added in the letter, written in Marathi.
Fadnavis confirmed on Monday that his office had received the letter and that he was planning to meet Umale’s family as soon as possible.
