A Pune-based senior citizen, who sent a cheque of Rs 20,000 to the Bombay high court registry so that he would get a one-hour hearing, has tendered an unconditional apology to the court on Thursday.
While accepting Anil Tikotekar’s apology, a division bench of justice PB Majmudar and justice Amjad Sayed, has directed the registry to return his cheque. The court has now kept his case for hearing after two weeks.
The high court said: “We accept his application for withdrawal of cheque from the registry. Being a layman, he did not know the procedure. He thought he could compensate the government by paying the cost of litigation. He has realised his mistake and has stated that he will be cautious in the future.”
Tikotekar had had sent an email to the high court saying that the appeal was to come up for hearing on January 11 but did not feature in the weekly list.
He sent a letter to the high court registry on January 9, with a cheque of Rs20,000. Tikotekar, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, is arguing an appeal in an arbitration case filed by his wife, Anagha, in 2004.
