The unit XII of the Mumbai crime branch arrested 31-year-old Kandarp Sharma, on Saturday, for applying for flats in the Mhada lottery using fake identities.

The police said Sharma prepared several documents in fake names and then used them to win flats in the lottery and sell them later at a profit.
The officers received a tip-off that Sharma had been indulging in this activity and had been destroying the documents later.
A police team raided his flat at Aarey Colony at Goregaon and found several ration cards, election ID cards, nationality and backward class certificates, letterheads of various organisations and newspapers, Mhada documents, PAN cards along with several rubber stamps.
A crime branch officer said Sharma confessed to the crime.
