Matunga building residents mum on deal with Raj's firm

Hindustan Times on Saturday reported that the firm was all set to redevelop the building which was at the heart of a controversy following

the mysterious death of one of its tenants, Ramesh Kini, in 1996.

Raj was accused by the Opposition of involvement in the killing in 1996, but both the Criminal Investigation Depar-tment and the Central Bureau of Investigation gave him a clean chit.

The building’s owner, Laxmikant Shah, and his son Suman have given their approval to the redevelopment plan, and the residents too have agreed.

One of the building’s residents, who did not wish to be named, said that all that the occupants wanted was proper accommodation. “We took interest in this proposal because they were giving us a good deal,” the resident said.

The resident added that the occupants had appointed a well-known lawyer from south Mumbai to assist them in the case. Nobody from Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s residence Matoshree was willing to comment on the matter.
