MERC to settle Tata, Reliance power dispute

People living in the suburbs will continue to get uninterrupted power without a hike in tariff till the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) resolves the battle between Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) and Tata Power Company (TPC).

People living in the suburbs will continue to get uninterrupted power without a hike in tariff till the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) resolves the battle between Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) and Tata Power Company (TPC).

The state referred the issue to the MERC on Tuesday. The two firms will now have to follow the state government orders until the MERC delivers its verdict. This means RInfra will continue to get 360MW from TPC at the regulated rate, despite TPC’s refusal.

The MERC has said it will take a decision only after a public hearing, to be held on June 28, by which time summer will be over and the demand for electricity much lesser.
