Metro officials appoint Geneva firm for safety at construction site

The Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd board which met on Tuesday has decided to appoint Geneva-based SGS Consultants to ensure strict compliance of safety norms at its construction site.

“We have appointed SGS Consultants as our independent safety consultant,” Sumit Banerjee, CEO of Reliance Infrastructure said.

The company has already started conducting a safety audit of the metro line. “They will remain till the end of the project,” metropolitan commissioner Rahul Asthana said.

The MMRDA and MMOPL have also appointed their own committees to get to the root of the accident.

Officials after the board meeting claimed a preliminary report on the cause of the accident would be submitted in two days and a detailed report in a week’s time.

Meanwhile, MMOPL has already imposed a fine of Rs10 lakh on the contractor HCC and said further action would be taken based on recommendations and findings of the report.
