MMRDA’s budget to focus on infra projects in Thane, Raigad districts

The MMRDA has reportedly allocated Rs1,922 crore for the development of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region excluding Mumbai and Rs1,542 crore for Mumbai in its Rs3,464 crore budget for 2013-14.

The MMRDA is likely to announce a 29.7km ring road in Kalyan. At an estimated cost of Rs312 crore, the project is expected to boost the growth in Kalyan city, which has over 72sqkm of developable land. The ring road will have two railway overbridges and one flyover.

A link road from Shirgaon Phata to Badlapur is also likely to be proposed. It will help reduce traffic congestion in Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur. The 37km link road is expected to cost Rs360 crore.

The authority has also planned an 8km bridge across Rewas creek at a cost of Rs403 crore. The bridge will strengthen the connectivity between Alibaug and Navi Mumbai. A 12km bypass road at Bhiwandi and 29km Mumbra-Dombivli- Bhiwandi Road are also likely to be proposed.

The planning authority has proposed to build a 4.5-km Worli-Sewri elevated road, two underground tunnels and a flyover to tackle the traffic between BKC and Western Express Highway.

Former MMRDA commissioner Rahul Asthana said, “We have given priority to new projects outside Mumbai in this year’s budget. For the city, our focus will be on completion of the ongoing big projects.”
