Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have objected to the breach of privilege motion passed by state Assembly against editors of two television channels.

The motion was passed after MLAs objected to the manner in which the channels had reported the recent assault on a policeman on Assembly premises. “The media is a reflection of society and puts across its views under the right to expression. I don’t see why a privilege motion should be moved,” said Thackeray.
The AAP sent a legal notice to speaker of the state legislative assembly Dilip Walse Patil on Friday, asking him to withdraw the motion, failing which the party would seek legal remedies. The notice read: “They were only expressing their right of speech as to what transpired in or around the legislative assembly hall. The power concerning such breach of privilege should be exercised cautiously, selectively and in extreme situations”.
