The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) distributed free milk in Nerul on Sunday to compensate for the alleged water shortage in Navi Mumbai.

The MNS is planning similar programmes in other parts of the city.
The MNS claimed to have distributed 5,000 litres of milk in Sector 16A of Nerul.
“People in the area used to get adequate water. There is a huge shortage now,” said Shahnawaz Khan, Navi Mumbai MNS vice-president.
The MNS claims that it was approached by the local residents to take up the issue and hence they decided to take up this form of protest.
“If we can supply Rs 24 per litre milk to the residents, can’t the administration supply them water? Water today has become costlier than milk.” explained Khan.
Shiv Sena corporator Vijay Mane, who represents the ward, termed the act a drama.
“There is absolutely no water problem in my area. This is all a political stunt. They have hardly distributed 50 litres of milk.”
He suggested, “If they really want to help the residents, they should distribute larger quantity of milk and in the morning when the kids need it.”
