Ram Divekar, sub-inspector, Ghatkopar police station, said: “From the residence of main accused Rakesh Choksi, 45, we recovered fake stamp tickets worth Rs66.60 lakh on Tuesday. On Thursday, when we searched the Charni Road house of Kondar, who works as a sweeper at Opera House, we found more fake stamp tickets worth Rs4.73 lakh.”

The stamps recovered from Kondar’s residence, include foreign exchange and insurance stamps of denominations varying from Rs100, Rs50 to Rs20, added Divekar.

With this seizure, the total worth of the seized fake stamp tickets rose to Rs71.33 lakh. The Ghatkopar police suspects that the fake stamp tickets may have been printed by the cartel allegedly headed by Abdul Karim Telgi in 2003, which led to the arrests of policemen and politicians.

On a subsequent police raid on Choksi’s Vile Parle residence, fake stamp fee worth Rs62.10 lakh was found. Choksi later told the Ghatkopar police that Kondar had handed over the stamp tickets to him in 2003, after the latter found it dumped in a garbage bin in the Opera House area.
