Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday shared the stage with Member of Parliament Padmasinh Patil at a party function in Osmanabad. Patil was suspended from the party’s primary membership last June following his arrest in a murder case.
Pawar even appealed to partyworkers to support Patil.
The duo was attending a meeting of NCP workers in Patil’s constituency Osmanabad.
Pawar’s statements are being seen as an indication that Patil is no more untouchable for the NCP even if he is facing trial in murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar who was shot in Navi Mumbai in 2006.
Patil, in his speech ,appealed to the local partymen to support him and his son, former state minister Rana Jagjitsingh.
Pawar also advised Rana not to lose heart over his defeat in the 2009 Assembly polls and continue working for the constituency. Nimbalkar’s son Omraje defeated Rana Jagjitsinh in the Assembly elections.
Party spokesperson Nawab Malik said there was nothing wrong if a party MP share the stage with the NCP chief but he was not sure whether Patil was back in the party.
“The decision to suspend him was taken by the national executive council of the party and since he has been sharing the dais with Pawar, it looks like the decision has been revoked,” said Malik. The NCP had decided to suspend the Osamanabad MP from the primary membership after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the murder of Nimbalkar. Patil is currently out on bail.
