Speaking out in defence of Superintendent of Police Sanjay Parande, Director General of Police Hasan Gafoor has alleged that former investigating officer in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) scam, Sudhakar Pujari, is using his political and underworld connections to oust Parande. The 32-page affidavit filed by Gafoor in the Bombay High Court states Pujari’s high-handedness in getting Parande transferred out of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) so that the latter’s misdeeds do not get exposed.
“Pujari has maliciously made false, frivolous and baseless allegations against Parande of either suppressing or sabotaging the evidence on record, or not placing the facts before the concerned court,” states Gafoor’s affidavit, adding that over the years, successive senior officers of the ACB have informed the high court about blatant insubordination, high-handedness and defiance of authority by Pujari.
Justifying Parande’s continuation with the ACB, Gafoor said that Parande is due to retire in few months.
Gafoor has filed the affidavit in reply to a petition filed by Gyanchan Verma, a former IPS officer and chairman of MPSC, who has sought removal of his name as a suspect from the MPSC scam. An IPS from the 1965 batch, Verma has alleged that Pujari victimised him.

The ACB registered a case in 2002, following allegations that original answersheets were replaced with fake ones, computer data was tampered with, and marks given for interviews were arbitrarily hiked. Twenty-nine people were arrested, including former MPSC chairman SD Karnik, former examination controller Sudhakar Sarode, MPSC member Sayli Joshi and Deputy Superintendent of Police Baban Kadam.
