Mumbai: Auto driver stabbed 43 times for refusing fare in Dombivli

Angry over his refusal to ply, five youngsters allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old autorickshaw driver from Dombivli to death, on Saturday. The accused have been arrested and booked for murder.

Angry over his refusal to ply, five youngsters allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old autorickshaw driver from Dombivli to death, on Saturday. The accused have been arrested and booked for murder.

According to the police, the incident took place at 2.30am, when Ganesh Jaiswal, a resident of Datta Nagar, was returning home.

The group —Vinod Wakale, Prashant Tale, Anand Devkar, Sriniwas Surgive and Rakesh Ingale — approached Jaiswal near Pragati College.

“All of them were drunk. When they asked Jaiswal if he would drop them to Nandivli, he refused fearing they won’t pay him his fare. The group then started arguing with the driver and stabbed him 43 times with a knife. They took his vehicle to an isolated spot in Nandivli and disposed of his body,” said SB Shivarkar, senior inspector, Dombivli police station.

The incident came to light, when Devkar approached the police on Saturday morning.

“Devkar narrated the sequence of events and took us to the spot where they had thrown the body. Within an hour, the other four accused were arrested,” said Shivarkar.
