In a major setback for the Bhau Daji Lad Museum Trust, the general body of the BMC on Friday scrapped a 12-year-old resolution that will affect its agreement with the trust. The BMC will now draft a new agreement, in which it will seek more powers to intervene in the affairs of the museum.

The move was proposed by MNS group leader Sandeep Deshpande and was passed on Friday. Shiv Sena, the ruling party in the BMC which had rejected the proposal for the scraping of the agreement thrice earlier, passed it on Friday.

The existing agreement will be in operation for the next six months. The BMC has decided to set up a committee of BMC group leaders, led by mayor Snehal Ambekar, to make recommendations for a new agreement with the museum trust. “We want the BMC to review the agreement, as it gives more authority to the trust than to the corporation. The BMC must have more say in the affairs of the museum,” said Deshpande.
