Mumbai cooler by 3°C as heavy rain continues

There was water logging in areas such as Andheri subway, Khar subway, parts of Juhu, Worli and Tardeo. Traffic disruptions were also reported. Commuters were left stranded during evening peak hours. “We have been waiting for a taxi for the last 40 minutes to go to CST station, but none of the cabbies want to ply,”said Sheetal Deshpande, who works in Nariman point.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, there has been a rise of over 38,000 million litres of water in catchment areas. This will supply water to the city for 11 days.

Konkan Railway services continued to be delayed because of heavy showers in western Maharashtra. “Our engineers are working to restore services by Thursday,” said Siddheshwar Telugu, chief PRO. Seven people died in Sindhudurg and two drowned in Raigad district where over 20 villages were affected by floods.

Two major dams — Radhanagari and Chandoli — in Kolhapur and Sangli districts respectively, recorded substantial increase in their water levels forcing authorities to discharge water.

Tuesday’s rain brought maximum temperatures down to three degrees below normal. “Cloudy skies are not allowing the sunlight to percolate to the Earth,” said Rajeev. Humidity levels continued to stay high at 93% in Colaba and 96% in Santacruz.
