Mumbai: Drunk biker bites off cop’s finger after being stopped for not wearing helmet

A drunk biker was arrested for biting off a police constable’s finger when the latter stopped his bike at a checkpoint for not wearing a helmet in Borivli (West) on Sunday.

According to the police, the accused biker, Ashwini Kumar Singh, 29, and his friend, Abhishek Pandey, 27, who was riding pillion, got into an argument with police constable Deepak Gite. The duo, both engineers, hails from Delhi.

“They were riding without helmets. When constable Gite asked Singh for the bike’s papers, he said that he was not carrying any documents. As Singh started behaving rudely with the policeman, Pandey started shouting obscenities at the other policemen present at the spot,” said an officer from Borivli police station.

When Gite asked them to get off the bike and get into the police van, they started manhandling Gite. Amidst the squabble, Singh bit off the little finger of Gite’s left hand, police said.

Singh and Pandey were produced before a holiday court on Sunday and have been remanded in police custody till January 30.
