A division bench of justice PV Hardas and justice Mridula Bhatkar, while granting bail to Gadkari on a surety of Rs.20,000 observed that the appeal against his conviction is not likely to be heard soon.

Gadkari was convicted to 10 years’ imprisonment in August 2011 along with co-accused Vikram Bhave under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Explosives Act.

However, the stringent provision under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was dropped by the court.

His lawyer argued that Gadkari had spent nearly five years in jail since his arrest in 2008.
