Mumbai: Mhada to attach premises of 12 builders

According to Mhada, the rules make it compulsory for builders to hand over the surplus area to the housing body. While Mhada plans to send notices to the builders for their premises in Nagpada, Dadar, Prabhadevi and Grant Road, it also plans to file complaints with the economic offences wing (EOW).

According to senior Mhada official, the action was necessary as many builders are depriving the city of affordable houses. “The builders have been ignoring our requests for long. We will sell the houses through a computerised lottery. We could also use the houses as transit accommodation,” said the official, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak to the media.

The housing body will ask the builders why their premises and bank deposits should not be seized. The builders in the defaulters list include M/s Paras Enterprises, Balwas Estates Cooperative Housing Society, I A Parekh, M/s Sneha Builders, M/s Gayatri Enterprises, Director Sanghvi Estate and Construction Private Limited and Nalinkumar M Shah & Company.
