Aruna Shanbaug, 67, who was shifted to medical intensive care unit (MICU) three days ago after she experienced difficulty in breathing, continues to be in the MICU and on ventilator support.

“Her condition remains the same, she is critical but stable,” said Dr Avinash Supe, dean of KEM Hospital, Parel.
Dr Supe said a team of doctors is working around-the-clock and attempts are being made to wean her off the ventilator.
Shanbaug, a former nurse of the hospital, has been in the hospital in a vegetative state for the past 42 years, after she was sexually assaulted by a hospital sweeper in November 1973. In December 2013, Shanbaug was admitted to the hospital’s MICU for the same condition.
Her health had then improved and she was shifted back to a small room near ward number four, which has been her home all these years.
