On Monday, the minimum temperature recorded was 14.6 degree Celsius, close to four degree below normal and the lowest this season.

Even the day time temperatures dipped to 26.5 degrees Celsius from last week’s 33 degrees Celsius.

Weathermen have predicted nippy days ahead with

minimum temperature at 15 degree Celsius on Tuesday with maximum temperature at 29 degree Celsius.

With temperatures dropping in the northern parts of the country, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department, R V Sharma said, “The resulting continuous flow of strong cold winds from those regions is responsible for the dip in temperature in Mumbai. But this is normal.”

In 2009, lowest temperature was recorded on December 31 at 13.4 degree Celsius at Santacruz.

The minimum temperature recorded in Colaba was 18.1 degree Celsius.

The north easterly winds over the city and a cloudless sky in the night are parameters responsible for the decrease in temperatures.
