‘Mystery man’ was Bidushi’s husband leaving for work: cops

The DN Nagar police, investigating the murder of 23-year-old model Bidushi Dash-Barde, said on Monday that CCTV footage of her building revealed that the ‘mystery man’ who visited Bidushi on the day of her murder was, in fact, her husband. The eyewitness, a house help who works on the building’s first floor, had confused the timing, police said.

Bidushi was found bleeding and wounded around 8.30pm when her software engineer husband, Kedar, 26, returned from his workplace at Nariman Point.

In the 65-year-old maid Ambubai Lavte’s previous version to the police, she said she saw a man enter Bidushi’s Andheri flat at 9.30am last Monday.

She had seen the man hug Bidushi and the police had said the mystery man held the key to the case as doctors had said the model was killed between 10am and 11am. Kedar, in his statement, had said Bidushi had hugged him before he left for work.

“After scanning CCTV footage of the area, it has become clear that no one visited Bidushi after Kedar left home at 7.50am that day. Ambubai corroborated this and said she had seen the man when she had come down from the first floor apartment where she works to buy milk, around 7.45am,” said a senior official, adding that the maid was likely to have made a mistake as she was sleepy.

The police said Bidushi’s death appears to be accidental. “We are investigating all angles, but there is no clinching evidence yet. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior official.
