NCP, MNS join hands to address commuters’ woes

In a rare political alliance, elected representatives of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have formed a joint Non-Governmental Organisation to represent railway commuters’ issues from north-east Mumbai, reports Rajendra Aklekar.

Member of Parliament and NCP leader Sanjay Patil, and Members of the Legislative Assembly from the MNS, Shishir Shinde and Mangesh Sangle, have formed a Navnirman Railway Pravasi Sanghatana with Patil, Shinde and Sangle as the joint advisors of the forum.

“What is wrong with it? After all we are elected representatives and we should look beyond politics, for the welfare of people. There is no meaning to this alliance. It is just a common platform to solve railway commuters’ woes,” Patil said.

Shinde said such forums are a common method used to solve people’s problems.

Six railway stations between Ghatkopar to Mulund on the Central Railway fall under the area of north-east Mumbai. The forum’s agenda as of now includes problems that immediately affect commuters like raising the height of the platforms at stations, providing public amenities, new indicators, street lights and getting more halts for fast trains on these stations.
