Mumbai schools faced a tough time filling the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam registration forms online on Monday because of errors in the website and low internet connectivity.

Stating that they will be unable to complete the registration within the stipulated period (10 days), principals have asked the board to extend the deadline for form filling.

Schools began filling forms online on Monday morning. However, many were unable to access the site till evening.

"We were trying to log in since 8am, but the page did not open. The passwords given by the board were not working," said Prashant Redij, principal, Hilda Castelino English High School, Kandivli, and vice-president, Mumbai school principals association.

The association complained to the board office on Monday. "We have asked for more time. Ten days are not going to be enough," Redij said.

Laxmikant Pande, chairperson, SSC's Mumbai divisional board, said, "Many schools had already filled the forms offline but when the website opened on Monday, they tried to upload various files, which resulted in the block."

Some schools have not yet been informed about the registration fee. "We don't know anything about the fee structure," said Meenakshi Walke, principal, IES Sule Guruji Vidyalaya, Dadar.
