The state-level conference of the Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday is expected to serve as a forum to mobilise party workers ahead of the Lok Sabha and assembly elections to be held next year.
Newly-appointed president Devendra Fadnavis will set the agenda of the party at the meeting in Shanmukhanand Hall. “He will emphasise the importance of rallying the strength of workers to ensure the victory of the Sena-BJP-RPI alliance. It is important to utilise Sena-BJP’s strong base to oust the ruling government. This will be his first official interaction with party workers from across the state,” said a party functionary.
The conclave will be inaugurated by senior leader Gopinath Munde, while the concluding session will be chaired by ex-national head of the party Nitin Gadkari.
The question about leadership in the ensuing elections remains a point of confusion within the party. Although the party had announced last year that the assembly elections would be fought under the leadership of Gopinath Munde, equations have changed after Gadkari was denied second term as national head.
“However, it is unlikely this issue will be discussed on Tuesday, as nearly 3,000 party workers are expected to attend,” another party leader said.
