It is for water-related issues especially for complaining about water mafia.

Nitesh, son of revenue minister Narayan Rane who heads the NGO, has also warned the tanker association to lower their prices within eight days.

“If the association doesn’t get back to us by March 18, we will not let any tanker ply in the city,” said Nitesh.

He also alleged that the Shiv Sena- Bharatiya Janata Party-led Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is mending the laws for itself.

“They have been claiming that the civic body is disconnecting unauthorised water connections. Two of Sena’s party offices, in Chembur and Mahim, have unauthorised connections. Why haven’t they been disconnected?” alleged Nitesh.

He said the BMC has done nothing to curb the city’s water mafia. He added that the city would overthrow the Sena-BJP rule in the BMC if water problems of the citizens are not addressed.

“The mayor announced that the city should celebrate a dry holi. Yet there was a rain dance party organised at the Municipal Gymkhana, next to the mayor’s residence in Dadar, for Maharashtrian actors. Why didn’t the civic body take action?” asked Nitesh.

Swabhimaan has launched the tirade against the BMC with respect to water problems in the city since December 2009.

One youth, who was a part of one such protest, had died outside the civic headquarters after he suffered a cardiac arrest.
