No check on water supply at CM, civic chief’s residences

Even as the city is struggling to tackle the water crisis despite cuts, supply to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s bungalow Varsha, municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya’s home and the official residences of some ministers cannot be quantified as water meters are not working at these places.

Even as the city is struggling to tackle the water crisis despite cuts, supply to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s bungalow Varsha, municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya’s home and the official residences of some ministers cannot be quantified as water meters are not working at these places.

This was found out in an RTI application filed by activist Chetan Kothari. The BMC stated that the meter installed at Varsha at Malabar Hill and the civic chief’s residence at Carmichael Road are not in a working condition. Though the meter at Raj Bhavan is working and monthly consumption there is about 100 million litres.

Kshatriya said, “The BMC will send a notice to the public works department to install a new meter at CM’s residence. The meter at municipal commissioner’s bungalow will also be replaced.” Chavan said, “An initiative should be taken to repair the defunct meters of all government residences. Also officers supposed to keep a check on the same should be penalised if they are not doing their job.”
