‘No politics in inviting Bachchan’

NCP leader and Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil invited Bachchan in December last year to inaugurate a modern drama theatre at Islampur in his Sangli district. After Patil again invited Bachchan, the actor posted the minister’s reminder in his blog saying: “I wonder what one must make of this.”

“We want Amitabh to attend the function,” Patil said. However, Congress should not misunderstand the offer as “it was an invitation to an artist and had nothing to do with politics,” the minister said.

‘Cong gag on art reminder of emergency’

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday continued its attack on what it called the Congress’ ‘arrogance’ in targeting Amitabh Bachchan. The party said the attacks on artistes and art were an integral part of the Congress’ activities during the Emergency.

He said the Congress’ present arrogance was a reminder of dark days of the Emergency.
