‘No quake, tsunami threat to Jaitapur’

In his address, Kakodkar told the gathering that the Jaitapur site was situated in a seismic zone of less intensity and perched a bit higher level from the sea.

However, despite Kakodkar’s assurances, however, Shiv Sena legislators continued to oppose the project. Most of them did not attend the talk. “It’s all hogwash. We are not convinced,” said senior Sena MLC Diwakar Raote.

Kakodkar said, “The Arabian Sea will not experience a tsunami of the kind that hit Japan and we know that the tsunami that hit us six years ago did not damage our Kalpakkam nuclear power station near Chennai,”

The lecture was organised to mark the inauguration of VS Pagey Centre for Legislative Studies. The centre will train legislators, government officials, students and private persons in the parliamentary processes.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar was seen desperately trying to alert Chavan, but in vain. Pawar later asked mediapersons to spare Chavan saying the CM seemed overworked. Davkhare played it safe. He coolly moved to the back row for an undisturbed forty winks.
