No right to question us: Sena replies to citizens’ appeal

The Shiv Sena on Thursday reacted to an appeal written by prominent Mumbai citizens asking the Maharashtra government to deal firmly with ‘rogue’ political outfits such as the Shiv Sena and the MNS, reports HT Correspondent.

The Shiv Sena on Thursday reacted to an appeal written by prominent Mumbai citizens asking the Maharashtra government to deal firmly with ‘rogue’ political outfits such as the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

“Why these double standards by the so-called prominent citizens? What do they have to say about Kasab? What is their stand on MF Husain’s painting Hindu Goddesses nude and what about many other political parties who indulge in anti-national activities?” asked Shiv Sena spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Bharatkumar Raut.

“If these people have not taken a stand on these issues, then they have no right to question the Sena,” Raut added.

In the statement, the trustee of Action for Good Governance and Networking, Gerson D Cunha had appealed to Mumbaikars, including the corporate world, to take a stand against parochial politics.

Among those who signed the petition are IAS officer BG Deshmukh, former IPS officer Julio Rebeiro, film director Shyam Benegal, banker Nasser Munjee, adman Aleyque Padamsee, journalists Anil Dharkar, Kumar Ketkar and Anand Akerkar.

The Shiv Sena and the MNS have been trying to outdo each other by launching a sons-of-the-soil campaign.
