No water cut from today as stock highest in 4 years

“There has been a significant rise in lake levels and the water will last till next year. Also bearing in mind the approaching Ganpati festival, the water cut will be withdrawn from Saturday,” said Rahul Shewale, chairman, civic standing committee.

Though 2011 is said to have received good rainfall, the total useful water content as on Friday stood at 12,44,064 million litres — 777 million litres more than what it was at this time last year.

“The proposal to withdraw the water cut had been prepared a few days ago and we had waited to make a formal announcement in the standing committee meeting on Friday. Though the meeting was adjourned due to other reasons, we did not want Mumbaiites to suffer,” added Shewale.

“A review of the water stock would be taken again at the end of monsoon on October 1,” said a senior official from the BMC’s hydraulic engineer’s department.
