“We are now going to conduct patrolling in areas under our jurisdiction, where people sleep on the streets making it difficult for the motorists to pass. We have been doing it but for sometime now but the slum dwellers always return,” said Arun Dhanawade, assistant police inspector of Byculla police station.

On Tuesday, Sona Shaikh, 30, and her three children—Lubna, 10, Shabana, 6, and Yasin, 2, were sleeping on Reay Road, when they were mowed down by a trailer. The locals caught the driver, Ghuyal Gaur, who was then handed over to the Byculla police. The police said the road in narrow and congested and slum dwellers sleeping on the street leave very little space for the vehicles to pass by.
