City school bus operators have two more months to install speed governors in their vehicles as the deadline has been extended from September 1 to October 31. This move comes after the school bus operators’ agitations and negotiations with the government.

VN More, Transport Commissioner, said, “The last day to install speed governors in school buses is Oct 31. We are waiting for the high court hearing scheduled for September 4.”
The School Bus Owners Association (SBOA) has filed a petition stating that the policies are not viable. “It is not viable to operate in a city like Mumbai if we run at 40kmph. We will take 20-25minutes more in each journey. And we want manufactures to install the speed governors, so that the device has a warranty,” said Anil Garg, president, SBOA.
Commercial transporters are also planning to intervene into the ongoing legal petition in the HC about installation of speed governors in commercial vehicles. Bal Malkit Singh, president, All India Motor Transport Association, said, “As stake holders, we will be requesting the high court to implement the latest Bahadur committee report recommendations instead of the speed governors under the 1989 rule, which is outdated. In the past two decades, several infrastructural changes have taken place that should be considered.”
