Pak artist’s work held up by customs

The works of the artist, showing in India after five years, couldn’t reach the gallery in time for the scheduled opening on April 9. The truck carrying the works was delayed as it was being examined by Customs officials in Mumbai, said Mortirmer Chatterjee of gallery Chatterjee & Lal. The works are expected to reach the gallery by April 10, when the exhibition will finally be thrown open.

The show is divided into two parts, with the works scheduled for display at gallery Chemould Prescott Road reaching the venue on time, and being opened to the public.

The exhibition of 11 works includes photo mosaics, video mosaics and photo sculptures by Rana. The artist, who is in Mumbai with his family, declined to comment.

Chatterjee & Lal had intimated most invitees about the cancellation of the show, so only a few had to be redirected to gallery Chemould Prescott Road.
