‘Pak group hacked Amravati univ website’

The hacking of Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University’s website on March 18 by a group calling itself the Muslim Liberation Army has been traced to hackers in Pakistan. Minister of state for home Satej Patil informed the legislative council of this development and said that the state government had approached the Centre with the matter.

Patil said that the internet protocol (IP) address of the hackers was traced to Lahore and Karachi. “The website was hacked by the ‘Muslim Liberation Army’ and they have left their email behind too,” Patil said.

The Amravati police have filed cases against unknown members of the Muslim Liberation Army for hacking into an official code and also for passing anti-national comments that could affect the peace of the country, he added.

Patil also said that to deal with issues such as cyber-crime, hacking and data theft, the government was “trying to increase the number of cyber cells” in the state. “They are currently based only in Mumbai and Pune. We will extend these to cities of Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Kolhapur to increase vigilance,” Patil said.
