The Borivli railway police have arrested Malwani resident Nasir Shaikh alias Pintu for throwing acid at a 22-year-old woman at Goregaon railway station on Tuesday.

Shaikh, 24, was arrested on the basis of a statement given by the victim Aarti Thakur. He has been charged with attempted murder and has been remanded to police custody.
Police suspect personal enmity as the motive behind the attack, though they are also probing if Shaikh is a spurned lover.
PM Karyakarte, senior police inspector with Borivali railway police, said Shaikh knew the victim from when she stayed in a rented accommodation at Mal-wani. Shaikh, who was her landlord, didn’t approve of Thakur’s friendship with his sister. Police are yet to find out why, if at all, Shaikh disapproved of the friendship. Police will also probe where he procured the acid from.
Shaikh, who works as an extra in films and runs a catering service, has denied any role in the crime.
