After the incident, the family is more cautious about opening the door to strangers. When HT visited their residence at Bheroomal Mansion on Turner Road, Pamnani did not open the door at the first knock and spoke through the door, inquiring about the purpose of the visit.

“My parents are terribly shaken after the incident. The doctor has advised her to rest. It was an unfortunate incident,” said Pamnani’s son, who refused to disclose his name, and opened the door with the safety latch on.

Pamnani’s son and daughter were at their workplaces when the incident occurred. “The accused barged in and attacked my mother,” he said, pointing at the blood trail on the floor. Pamnani sustained injuries on the leg, nose and back, while Dayaldas sustained a back injury.

The police have advised the residents to install closed-circuit cameras and appoint a security guard at their residence.

Hanuman Humbe, sub-inspector at Bandra police station, said, “It seems the accused had conducted a reccee at Pamnani’s residence as they had come with the duct tape and a chopper. Further probe is underway.”
