Police book school bus owner for negligence

The NRI-Seawoods police, on Friday, arrested Delhi Public School (DPS) bus driver, Munnala Parshi (41). Later that night, Shetty was booked.

The fitness certificate of Shetty’s bus expired on August 3. The Road Transport Office (RTO) had issued two notices asking the bus to be scrapped.

Rafiq Baghban, senior police inspector of NRI-Seawoods police station, said: “We have booked Shetty for negligence and operating the bus without the requisite documents. He will be arrested in due course.”

Shetty claimed he had no idea about being booked by the police.

“I wasn’t driving the bus. The driver was arrested and later released on a bail of Rs 2,000. I don’t understand why we are being targeted and no action has been taken against the other bus driver (of Seventh Day Adventist, Sanpada) who was at fault,” Shetty said.

On his bus not possessing the fitness certificate, Shetty said: “That is a different issue.”

Rohit Garg (9) of the DPS, underwent a surgery on his right hand. Dr Rajesh Gavane of MGM hospital said: “Garg had a deep cut in his hand. A tendon was torn and we had to do a surgery. He should be discharged by Monday morning.”
