Police form two teams to trace third accused in gang rape case

According to the police, the third accused has been identified as Sanjay Chandrika Yadav, a 25-year-old resident of Ganpat Patil Nagar slums in Borivli (West). While the two other accused, Harish alias Jeetu Nageen Dantani, 25, and Sunny Sultan Singh, 25, both unemployed, were arrested from their residences on Tuesday morning, Yadav has been absconding.

“Yadav is the native of a village in Uttar Pradesh. His last known location was found to be the Kurla railway station. We suspect that he has fled to his village. So, while a team is on the lookout for him in the city, another one has been dispatched to Uttar Pradesh,” said an official from MHB colony police station.

The police on Wednesday also brought in Yadav’s brother Babloo for questioning. Babloo, the police said, denied knowledge of his brother’s whereabouts.

The police said that Dantani is a history-sheeter and was also externed from the city three years ago. “Dantani has three cases of assault registered against him — two in 2008 and one in 2009. He was externed from the city in 2009 when he spent six months in Gujarat. After he came back to Mumbai, there are no known criminal records against him, until he was arrested in the gang-rape case,” said another official from MHB Colony police station.

Singh, the police said, also has a case of assault that was registered against him in 2010 at the MHB Colony police station. Yadav has no known previous criminal records, according to the police.
