You might want to party with caution this New Year’s Eve because the Mumbai police have strengthened their campaign against drink driving.

The traffic police booked 143 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol on Christmas Eve.
The offenders were booked between 11pm and 1am, the traffic police said. The traffic police last week had launched a ‘safe celebration’ drive that was aimed at spreading awareness about risks and consequences of drink driving. The drive that kick-started from the 24th will continue until December 31 to curb drink driving during year-end festivities.
The traffic police will barricade main and arterial roads in the city for breath analyser tests on motorists. “Traffic policeman will cover around 50 to 60 spots to test drivers for around the city,” an officer posted in the traffic control room said, requesting anonymity.
