Police rescue kidnapped teenager from Bihar

A 13-year-old boy who was kidnapped from Govandi two weeks ago and later taken to Bihar by his abductor, was rescued from the eastern state on Thursday.

The boy, Asgar Ali Shaikh, was abducted by a man identified as Raja, said the Shivaji Nagar police. Raja was a former employee of Asgar’s father, Mohammad Jilani Shaikh, 44, who is a zari merchant from the Rafiq Nagar area of Govandi, said the police.

“On July 14, Asgar returned home from his coaching classes around 6pm. He went out to purchase a chocolate when he met Raja on the way. Under the pretext of asking him directions to a shop, he took my son to Kurla. At Kurla station, he threatened Asgar to keep quiet and forced him to board a train,” Mohammad told Hindustan Times.

When Asgar did not return home by 8pm, his parents got worried and began looking for him in the neighbourhood. The next day (on July 15), they registered a missing persons complaint at the Shivaji Nagar police station.

“On July 20, I received a call for ransom. Raja, who was employed at my zari workshop six years ago demanded Rs3 lakh in exchange for my son,” said Mohammad.

“Unfortunately, Raja realised that our police officers had been dispatched to Bihar and he left Asgar behind and fled the spot,” said Agarwal. Asgar has been reunited with his parents.
