Powai ‘maid assaulter’ surrenders

Minocha, a resident of Raheja Complex in Powai, whose anticipatory bail application was earlier rejected by the sessions court, was granted anticipatory bail by the Bombay high court last week after which she surrendered, said Powai police.

“Minocha’s anticipatory bail application was accepted by the high court last week. She was asked to pay Rs 25,000 as bail surety amount, in addition to depositing Rs1 lakh. Subsequently, she came to the police station on Tuesday evening. We recorded her statement,” said Ashok Jadhav, senior police inspector of Powai police station.

The incident had occurred on November 20. Upset with her 13-year-old housemaid for accidentally leaving a hot iron unattended which caused minor burn injuries to Minocha’s three-year-old daughter, she allegedly branded the girl with a hot iron and beat her up. Jadhav added that in her statement to the police, Minocha confessed that she had committed the offence in a fit of rage.

“Minocha said that she suspected that the maid was not taking proper care of her daughter. In a huff, she branded the maid,” said Jadhav.
