Power charges hiked steeply in Navi Mumbai, eastern suburbs

Be prepared to shell out an average of Rs. 300 more as your monthly power bill. Dome-stic state power consumers in eastern suburbs like Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, Mulund, Navi Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra will have to shell out 54 paise to Re. 1 more per unit of power in their monthly bills from August.

Maharashtra Electricity Reg-ulatory Commission, the state energy regulator, passed an order on Thursday revising tariff for 2012-13 for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited consumers, allowing an overall increase in average tariff of 16.48%.

The average hike is around 9% for domestic consumers and 7% for industrial users. As a domestic consumer, if you have been consuming between 100 and 300 units of power, you will now have to pay Rs. 6.05 per unit instead of Rs. 5. If you consume between 300 and 500 units of power, your tariff will go up from Rs. 7.15 to Rs. 7.92 per unit. If you consume between 500 and 1,000 units, it will go up from Rs. 8.29 to Rs. 8.78 per unit.
