Suburban services on Western Railway (WR) were affected on Monday morning owing to a power supply problem between Churchgate and Bandra stations. Suburban services on the main and Harbour line of Central railway were also running behind schedule.

Unconfirmed reports said there was a problem with the power supply to an overhead wire between Churchgate and Bandra stations around 11.20am. Trains had to be halted, forcing passengers to jump walk on the tracks.

“Our train stopped near Matunga station. Several trains were bunched together and commuters had to walk on the tracks,” said one woman commuter. Some commuters said they saw a spark followed by a loud sound at Elphinstone Road sub-station around 11.30am.

A WR spokesperson said senior officials are in the control room trying to restore traffic. Train services are expected to resume in some time.

Meanwhile, barring a delay of 10-15 minutes, suburban services on all four railway corridors in the city ran according to the timetable during morning rush hour.
