Pradhan report: CM leaves it all to RR

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has left it to Home Minister R.R. Patil to decide whether the Ram Pradhan Committee report should be tabled in the winter session of the legislature.

The session begins on Tuesday. At a press conference held on Monday, Chavan said that Patil’s views were important. “The report may have observations vital to the home department, its structure and working. Personally, I’m not against concealing any fact.” Patil was unavailable for comment.

The government had refused to table the findings of the two-member committee that probed the police response to the terror attacks. It had declared the document classified saying it had observations that could hamper the case’s ongoing trial.

However, a section of media claimed to have accessed the report. The Opposition, on Saturday, said it would place the report in the legislature if the government did not. Opposition leader Eknath Khadse said, “I will pass the report on to the Speaker, who may later give it to the CM.”

“Since the chief minister, a Congressman, doesn’t want to take any blame for not tabling the report, he has pushed the matter to Patil,” said an official requesting anonymity because of the controversial nature of the subject. “Patil may decide against tabling the report because he will have to go through the embarrassment once again.”
