Prepare to sweat more as Mumbai gets hotter this week

High humidity and temperature make it difficult.

The city will see an increase in day temperatures by two to three degrees over the week because of an upper cyclonic circulation that has affected Gujarat, says the weather bureau. In the last few days, an increase in humidity has made it difficult to step out in the sun.

“A change in the direction of the wind is the reason for the increase in the temperatures. The wind which earlier blew westward is now blowing towards the north “, said Ajay Kumar, director, Regional Meteorological Department, Mumbai.

On Sunday, the humidity level at Colaba was 69% and it was 64% at Santacruz. On Monday, the humidity rose to 75% in Colaba while it remained constant at 64% in Santacruz. There was a slight rise in temperatures for Colaba where temperatures rose from 32.6 degrees on April 20 was 32.6 degrees to 33.3 degrees on Monday. At Santacruz, the temperature fell marginally from 32.5 degrees to 32.0 Celsius during the same period. Explaining the increase in humidity, Kumar added. “A cloud circulation from the Bay of Bengal is moving westwards which is causing an increase in humidity levels.”

Forum Kacheria, a medical college student who commutes from Kandivali to Khandeshwar to attend medical lecture daily said, “The heat is draining and at times I get headaches because of the constant exposure to the sun. This is affecting my studies.”
