Popat Shinde, 45, one of the men accused of torching additional collector Yashwant Sonawane in Manmad, continued to be critical on Thursday, said doctors at JJ Hospital, Byculla.

“He has suffered 70% burns and is critical but stable,” said Dr TP Lahane, dean of JJ Hospital. Shinde was brought to JJ Hospital from Nashik Civil hospital on Wednesday morning.
He is one of the 11 people accused of allegedly torching Sonawane, who tried to stop them from mixing kerosene with fuel in a tanker at Panewadi village in Manmad on Tuesday.
Shinde's health hasn’t deteriorated since he was admitted to JJ Hospital.
“Apart from the burn injuries in the respiratory tract, the other burn injuries are superficial,” a doctor said, requesting anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
