Probe ordered over intruder at swearing-in ceremony at Wankhede

The departmental inquiry will be conducted by the deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Ravindra Shisve and the report will soon be submitted to Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria.

A day after an intruder was arrested for penetrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security during the swearing-in of the new cabinet in Maharashtra, an inquiry has been ordered to identify the police officer responsible for security that day, and if he committed any error.

The departmental inquiry will be conducted by the deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Ravindra Shisve and the report will soon be submitted to Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria.

On October 31, Anil Mishra, 39, who claims to be a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with other VVIPs, went to the podium on which the PM and new chief minister were seated.

According to sources, preliminary investigations revealed that Mishra had managed to sneak in with a group of four persons, who had come out to receive one of the Union cabinet ministers.

Officials have CCTV footage of Mishra’s entry. The role of policemen, who were responsible for securing the area, and other details captured in the footage will also be probed.

“The inquiry will be conducted in a time-bound manner and the report will be submitted soon,” said a senior IPS officer, requesting anonymity.

Mishra, meanwhile, has been remanded to police custody till November 11. He has been booked under sections 170 (personating as a public servant) and 447 (criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code.

His advocate has claimed that Mishra had gone to podium as he wanted to congratulate chief minister Devendra Fadnavis after the swearing-in ceremony.
