Protest march, candlelight vigil over Grover judgement

The protesters were, however, stopped by the police. Mahesh Patil, deputy commissioner of police (zone 11) told HT that the protestors were stopped because they did not have permission to carry out the protest. “We allowed them after they promised that they would maintain order,” Patil said.

Attended by nearly 500 people, the protest march started from Kannada actress Maria Susairaj’s Malad residence, who walked free from jail on Saturday as she had already served the three-year sentence awarded to her as an undertrial.

“Earlier, the police had stopped us from taking out the procession. Then (Mumbai northwest MP) Sanjay Nirupam intervened. The matter was sorted out and we could continue with the march,” Pandit said.

Later in the evening, thousands of people took part in a candlelight vigil near the Lokhandwala Garden to protest against the judgement. The protesters carried placards and banners proclaiming ‘Justice For Neeraj Grover’ and demanded that justice be done to the Grover family.
